Hardcore heavy metal fans may look like a rough bunch who have no qualms about getting into punch ons, headbang others around them (causing them concussions) or just pushing and shoving in the moshpit. These people could easily have been called bastards (probably worse names actually) at some point or another. Well, these types of heavy metal fans can act as recklessly (or bastardly) as they want at this year’s Bastardfest, the music festival of the bastard!
As its Facebook page describes Bastardfest, it’s for “the bloke who forgot his mum’s birthday, to the dude who makes his pregnant misses put out the bins, to all offensive, obnoxious and despicable individuals”. Perhaps not the nicest crowd in the world, but heavy metal music has never been “nice” (i.e. lame). So if you know what’s good for you, don’t wear a Justin Bieber or Britney Spears t-shirt if you go.
Each city has a different lineup, definitely giving each town its own experience to the ways of of being a bastard through music. So though they are bastards, at least they’re not simply repeating themselves. (Canberra must have the biggest bastards in Australia, as they have two shows! How fitting, being as Canberra is where our beloved Federal government reside, so no surprise there).
