The Chandelier Room Review

Review by Lauren Morton

Now, I don’t know about everyone else out there, but I’m a sucker for live music. It seems that whenever a band is placed in front of me, I instantly feel calm, carefree, and oblivious to any of my troubles. That’s why, after a horrendous week at work, I make a be-line to The Chandelier Room, Moorabbin’s hottest live music venue.

This bar has become renowned around the area for its relaxed vibe. With cosy couches that swallow you whole and huge luminescent chandeliers, the decor definitely reflects this laid back atmosphere. The monochromatic colour scheme gives the mix-matched furniture a modern twist, blending the old and new into a style that is refreshingly unique. After picking prime position on one of the many devouring couches, you’ll be able to really soak in the easy-going nature of the people and performers.

Each weekend at The Chandelier Room sees a swag of emerging Melbournian musical talent performing at the venue. Saturday night usually musters a collection of artists to wow the crowd; some favourites of the bar include Double Entendre, The Rusty Pickers and The Quarry Mountain Dead Rats. Whilst the bar hosts primarily blues, roots, country and soul acts, they do not discourage other genres of music, with Sunday nights being the always popular open mic night.

After indulging in a finger-picking solo from the disgustingly talented live acts, you’ll find yourself being drawn to the bar. Here you’ll discover all your usual drinks, except without the CBD price tag, yet another feature of the venue that ticks all the boxes. Bottled beers range from $5.50-$6.50; whilst a glass of wine will set you back $6. My tipple of choice, the extremely popular Rekorderlig fruit cider, will only cost you $10 here, whereas most other bars will charge least $13 to indulge in this sweet delight.

Before the next act hits the stage, you might want to place an order in to the kitchen, yet just another highlight of the venue. Serving up gourmet pizzas, antipasto platters and cheese tasting plates, The Chandelier Room have you covered when hunger strikes, as it so inevitably will. Whilst the menu is limited, it more than suffices any cravings that are so often associated with a night out.

The crowd, like the venue, is laid back. They’re not expecting to be in line for the bar for half an hour. Nor are they worried about having to hobble home after being crippled on the dance floor. They’re simply there to watch great music with great company, and that’s why this venue is a refreshing change to the CBD night out from hell.

So if you’re boss has been riding you to complete that sales performance report, or if you’re mum has been at you to ‘clean up the shed like you promised’, why not head down to The Chandelier Room? Wash away the week from hell with some blues and booze.
