Review Of Silk Road

Review By Suzan Mustafa

Inspired by the 16th Century historical trade route that connected silk merchants across the Asian continent comes one of the most talk about and classiest bars in Melbourne’s CBD – Silk Road.

From the moment you walk through the vaulted double doors you are immersed into an elegant environment filled with sparkling chandeliers, marble statues and velvet drapery. Once you have absorbed all the glitz and glamour that the decor of Silk Road has to offer, it’s hard not to get lost in the venue as the size is staggering! With eight bars to explore, you must ensure that you don’t spill any wine on your finest attire.

Towered by a striking Marco Polo statute, the Venetian bar dominates the ground floor with its exclusive range of beer, wine and spirits. What makes this level more appealing is its 18-seat Mediterranean table for tapas offering some of the finest European appetisers you may ever experience in all of Melbourne. But just when you thought that the fine foods of Europe are as good as it gets for this venue, you are wrong. Let’s not forget that the inspiration of Silk Road itself is Asian inspired – meaning that there is succulent Teppanyaki on offer. So not only should you travel to Silk Road with the desire to fuel up on the alcohol, I would highly recommend going to this bar on an empty stomach as the exquisite foods are sure to tempt anybody’s tastebuds.

Making your way onto the Mezzanine Level will truly have you wondering if you’ve just rubbed Aladdin’s magic lamp as the atmosphere is truly something you’ve always wished a bar would have. Covered with gold interior, The ‘Shahanshah Lounge meaning ‘king of kings’ was the title given to Alexander the Great when he ruled the Persian Empire. This exclusive area features the ‘Gold’ and ‘Deco’ bars. Fit for any prince, you can reign over the Venetian Bar below while you sip on the finest cocktails and French Champagne that’s on offer.

If you’re lucky enough to be invited to a private function at Silk Road then it will be easier to understand why the queue for this place is always so long. The third level holds entry to the very exclusive Bacchus and Neptune Suites that offer world-class service by providing the most premium products on hand. Each room holds 40 guests and operate with their own bar and DJ.

Located in Collins Street Melbourne, Silk Road is a must-see place that will make you feel as if you have walked along a red carpet and reached celebrity status as soon as you enter this very elegant and unique venue.

A 2nd Silk Road Review

Review By Marina Kociska

If you love ceiling frescoes, dusky extravagance, and unblemished sparks on colossal chandeliers, Silk Road is the place for you. The dazzling entrance evokes a sense of antiqueness, taking you to voyages from regions of the Asian continent all the way through to the Mediterranean Sea. It is an exclusive bar scene in Melbourne, evoking influences from all over the world. Need to escape the world for the night? Come to Silk Road and enter several worlds all at the one stretch.

Silk Road features eight bars, including a wine and cheese room, and a cognac, champagne, cocktail and caviar room. Elegant women, expensive cognacs, and enlightening conversations- Silk Road would have been a frequent night out for Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn if it existed in the 1950’s. There are no entry fees to stride into Silk Road. All that is expected is beautiful attire along with a frivolous smile. The ground floor offers comfort and space with The Venetian Bar positioned in the centre, under the grand chandeliers. This level also includes a dance area, whereby the crowd sways to chill-out tracks and urban dance tunes.

The mezzanine level is located on the 2nd level. This level allows gazing at the crowd from the top; while being ravelled by the aura of hazelnut liquors and mango margaritas. It offers two separate bars; each bar has their own theme and drinks specialty. One of the key advantages of Silk Road is the quick service!

Private luxury suites are located on the 3rd level of Silk Road; The Neptune and Bacchus Suites offer a delightful opportunity to enjoy the entire view of the venue, while having the chance to engage in private gatherings. These suites offer elite services; they also offer exceptional selections for personal requests. Each room caters for up to 40 guests, the rooms are also equipped with their own bar and DJ. One of the amazing things about this venue is the specialised cocktail menus and the separate champagne and wine bars. The St George Wine Room encapsulates an iconic-vintage style aroma. It offers a unique selection of international wines, as well as cheeses to match any selection you desire. For those who enjoy a cigar or a cigarette there is an enclosed smoking area located on the ground floor.

If you like to be lavished by luxury, as well as admiring the beauty and intimacy of this Melbourne hotspot then come down to Silk Road. Come for the camaraderie, the exotic cocktails, and become entwined by the laughter of a graceful night at Silk Road.
