What To Expect @ Howl At The Moon

Written by Jade Catanese

Walking into Howl at the Moon, now located in Surfers Paradise and not in Broadbeach, I was immediately struck by the electric atmosphere. The piano player was playing strong while the vocalist was running all over the dance floor joining in with bar-goers as they danced to old school classics.

If I could compare this bar to anything, I would say it is Cocoon (located on Cavil Ave) meets the Avenue (located on Orchid Ave). If you haven’t been to either of these, let me paint you a clearer picture. An idyllic white bar with beachy wooden furnishings, featuring live musicians covering classic old time songs that will have you fighting the vocalist for the microphone while shouting “I LOVE THIS SONG!”

After dancing to hits such as ‘Timewarp’ and ‘Thriller’, and taking a quick break in one of the booths opposite the dance floor to admire the moves of those still going strong, a friend and I retired to the outdoor balcony overlooking the Nerang river. Here I sat at tables overlooking the river with a drink in one hand and my phone taking photos (okay, selfies) in the other. It was also here that I realised I no longer had a voice left after singing/screaming to ‘Summer of ’69’.

And the watermelon martinis are only the cherry on top of the cake. Priced at $16.50, I’d happily say they are worth every penny. Unless you don’t like watermelon. In which case you can never go wrong with a trusty espresso martini, also $16.50. The bartenders are ready to go that extra mile to help make your drink perfect, as I found when my friend requested no watermelon garnish on her drink and I told him to not listen to her. When I received my highly anticipated glass of Moscato, the bartender had given me her watermelon garnish. To say I was stoked would be an understatement.

Howl at the Moon is the perfect stop to kick your evening and get you in a great mood to propel you through the night. On the flip side, it can also serve as that perfect place to finish your night off, chilling in a booth listening to the music that brings back the good ol’ times.
