Society nowadays deems smokers as idiots and smoking as a horrible habit, so even at nightclubs smokers are like social pariahs. Sunday July 1st 2007 was the day smoking was banned in bars and nightclubs Australia wide, and what a horrific day it was for smokers, while simultaneously being a joyous day for non-smokers.
So then designated smoking rooms and outdoor areas were created to cater for partygoers wanting a puff between shots. This was brilliant not only for smokers, but for those wanting to pick up too. If it’s true that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then the way to a woman’s heart is quite possibly through her lungs (or mouth, but making a blow job joke would be too obvious).
1. Less Noise
Women tend to be more guarded when on the dance floor because of all the dudes hitting on her or trying to dance with her, but when they’ve gone to have a smoke, they can finally relax a bit. She is now just another nicotine addict rather than the queen of the dance floor. You can now introduce yourself in a civilised manner, rather than grab her from behind like Robin Thicke did with Miley Cyrus at the VMA Awards.
2. Light Up The Hottie’s Smoke
I remember when a hot brunette asked me if I could light up her smoke, but I couldn’t because I don’t smoke, therefore I didn’t carry a lighter. You have no idea how annoyed I was about that; damn me for being health conscious! But in any case, if you’re also a smoker, or just happen to have a lighter handy (you strategist, you!), then it’s a sure way in. Though she’ll of course have her own lighter, it’s the gesture that makes all the difference, like pulling out a chair for a girl when going to dinner when she could easily do it herself. It’s the thought that counts.
3. Small Area
Smoking areas tend to be pretty small, so not many people can be inside at once. This gives you a great advantage in that there aren’t too many other people there, so there’s far less competition for you to compete against. Besides, any potential competition will be primarily going there to smoke themselves.
4. Gives You Something To Talk About
Whenever you meet new people, conversation’s going to be a bit awkward, so the simple fact you both smoke is a good icebreaker. It shows there’s common ground between you (albeit small common ground). And like any conversation, it’ll get better and more interesting, and hopefully leads to less talking and other things involving your lips. Sure beats talking about the weather as an icebreaker anyway.
