It’s Wednesday. Everyone deserves a hump day treat. You’ve made it half way through the week, so why not let yourself have a little sneak preview of the weekend? And our lovely city agrees, with many bars and nightclubs opening their doors and promising a good time for all. So where should you escape to?
Those looking for a casual night to unwind and refresh themselves for the rest of the week, Village Bar is the place for you. Tucked away from the main street of Subiaco, walking into Village Bar is like walking into a cosy cabin. You are immediately hit with the laidback attitude of everyone in there. It is obvious everyone is there to blow off some steam with and relax with a beer. The ample seating in this place makes sure you can take a load off your feet and really kick back. And with live music most Wednesdays, why not?
From 8pm till 9pm is happy hour, which is also a bonus for all your cash strapped people out there. Although any happy hour is great for your bank balance, Village Bar got rid of the $10 jugs deal. As sharing is caring, this was perfect to ensure everyone had a cheerful night…but don’t despair, because there is a $5 vodkas and mixers deal that won’t break the bank either.
For those looking for a big night out, my favourite choices are Club Red Sea or The Leederville Hotel. Both of these places are all about celebrating the fact that the weekend is almost here. Think loud party tunes to get your dancing into the early hours of the morning and plenty of people to enjoy your night with.
The Leederville Hotel is broken up into three main areas: upstairs, back room and the main dance floor. On the main dance floor you’ll find the DJ playing most of the top 40 party tunes - and don’t forget the iconic cages that mark the corners of the dance floor which is the perfect place to really let your hair down.
For those more keen on the hip hop tunes, head to the back room. Your ears will be treated to the sounds of Chris Brown to Kanye West. If your feet need a bit of rest, walk up the winding stairs located towards the back of the venue to the upstairs bar. Here you’ll find a couple of booths and couches. Sit here to catch up with friends or maybe you just want to be entertained by those on the upstairs dance floor.
A great thing about this place is there is no entry fee. However, if you’re not liking standing in line, there is a VIP option where you can pay $10 to advance your place in the line.
Drink prices are pretty standard – a vodka and lemonade will cost your $8 and something a little more fancy such as a jager bomb is $10 a pop. There is the super cheap (and sometimes super nasty option) of house wine if you are really strapped for cash at $5 a glass.
Club Rea Sea runs ‘Cheek’, a Metric Promotions event every Wednesday. There is a $10 entry fee which is annoying, however Red Sea offers a happy hour from 8pm to 9pm again with $5 vodkas and mixers which is a positive. As this venue is quite small, it does pay to get there early to avoid long lines. Although the place is small, you don’t seem to notice as much when you’re inside. And if you do every need a breather, just head out onto the balcony. One thing to note, no drinks are allowed on the balcony. And I mean NO drinks, not even water.
There are also couches located to the right of the front bar and the back corner of the night club. Be prepared to cosy up on these couches at any one time 20 people all want to sit down at the same time.
So next Wednesday, give yourself a pre-weekend treat with a hump day (or night rather) outing.
