A History of Hip Hop Music and Culture

Hip Hop and RnB have without question been the dominant music genre of the 2000’s. Approximately 40% of number one hits throughout this period have either been hip hop or RnB illustrating perfectly how a once obscure music genre can dominate the mainstream music charts for a decade so much so, that it has created a subculture unto itself.

If you don’t know, the father of Hip Hop culture was DJ Afrika Bambaataa who forged the 5 pillars of hip hop culture being DJ’ing, MC’ing, break dancing, graffiti and knowledge during the 70’s. An arguably late edition to these pillars is beat boxing however this was not originally deemed to be an integral part of Hip Hop Culture.

Originating from the Bronx, Hip Hop culture is without question most identifiable with African Americans, however has been adopted by all ethnicities both in the USA and around the world, largely due to the contribution of Hip Hop groups such as RUN DMC and Public Enemy as well as hip hop music icons such as Grand Master Flash during the late 80’s.
Massive contributions to hip hop music and culture were also made by notable break dance crews including the Rock Steady Crew, New York Breakers, as well as the Kool DJ Herc, who pioneered the hip style of DJ’ing and turntableism which is still used today.

Due to the explicit language used as well as controversial topics that hip hop music addressed, conservative groups moved to censor hip hop music and artists on the basis that they glorified violence. If anything this only increased the popularity of the hip hop artists they tried to regulate, and reinforced existing prejudices that proponents of hip hop music and culture had against the police and government.

So popular now is hip hop music and culture that the national geographic published “hip hop is the world’s most popular youth culture” in which every country has its own brand and take on hip hop music and culture. Without question, hip hop is set to only grow, as a never ending line-up of hip hop artist cultivate their skills around the world.

Types of Guys in Bars and Nightclubs

Whenever girls go out to bars and nightclubs, there is the unavoidable circumstance that we all have to face: getting hit on by guys. Guys can be sleazy, charming, cute, cool, hot, and everything in between…but how do you sort out the good guys from the bad guys? The right person in nightclubs can make your night enjoyable, fun, and provide you with a great hook up if that’s what you’re looking for. Here’s a little list of the types of guys in bars and nightclubs to help you avoid the perverts, and figure out those guys who just don’t make sense.

1. The funny guy.

This guy will normally be found with his group of guy mates, cracking jokes or doing stupid dance moves. Don’t get him confused with the ‘charming funny guy’: this guy is purely laughs, laughs, and laughs. He will be good fun for the night, but don’t expect him to call in the morning or take anything he says too seriously. He might make jokes about your looks, your weight, or anything else that guys aren’t supposed to say to girls; you are going to have to ignore these comments if you want the guy for anything more than a good laugh.

2. The pervert.

I’m sure that most girls have encountered enough of these guys to know exactly how to spot them, but leopards can change their spots. Some perverted or sleazy guys can masquerade as normal people, or can even be very charming. The easiest way to spot these guys and avoid getting in to a sticky situation is to watch for the warning signs: watch for excessive touching, excessive buying of drinks for you, and excessive ‘I’m trying to kiss you’ signs such as leaning in too close or trying to take you to quiet spots.

3. The guy who is just looking for sex.

Don’t get this confused with the pervert: the pervert is looking for any excuse to touch a girl, any excuse to look at a girl for more than two seconds, or any excuse to be alone with you so he can try and make some move. The guy who’s just looking for sex has more standards than the pervert, and will generally talk to you a little. He may want to get to know you and see that you’re a really cool person, but if you don’t want sex too then he’ll probably get your number and get out of there. Give him your number and let him do his thing…he is a guy, after all.

Stay tuned for more types of guys in bars and nightclubs!

How to Get Drunk Quickly in Bars and Nightclubs

If you’re a university student like me (or just poor in general), one concern that always arises before a night out is how much money you will need to spend on alcohol. After all, bars and nightclubs don’t make their drinks very wallet-friendly, and your friends are probably as poor as you (therefore they can’t shout you drinks). However, there are ways to ensure that you don’t go completely broke from a night out, but still have fun.

The Girls You SHOULDN’T Take Home From The Bar

Everyone thinks that girls are the only people who have it tough at night clubs…That’s not true at all. While guys don’t have to deal with strange men trying to take them home (usually), they have their own set of problems involving girls that can be just as frustrating and complicated. This can range from the girl that was a pash-and-dash, to having to buy his own drinks and drinks for the girl he’s trying to pick up. Guys, if you don’t want to go home with an empty wallet and a memory of a dull night, here’s 5 girls that you should avoid in bars and nightclubs.

1. The drunk girl who is unable to stand straight.

This is the girl that normally falls on top of you accidentally, then ends up hitting on you. While this may seem like an easy catch, there’s more to this girl than meets the eye. Chances are that she’s drunk too much, and doesn’t know who anyone or what anything is. Take her home, and she will end up throwing up or passing out. I mean, when your friends ask you “What happened last night?” and you tell them “Oh, she threw up and fell asleep…”, that doesn’t exactly make you look like a stud.

2. The girl with a guy next to her.

This is either going to be her guy friend, or her boyfriend…and if it’s her boyfriend, then you’re in for a big problem. If you can’t avoid this girl, then at least size up the situation before you use your best pick up line. If she looks even remotely like she’s interested in him, back off. While a black eye can make for good conversation during the week, you’re not going to get any girls that night. And you’ll probably get thrown out of the bar or nightclub.

3. The girl that talks to or dances with you but refuses to do anything more.

Plain and simple: she’s poor, and just wants alcohol. So many girls go out with nothing but their taxi money and their ID, and still manage to get drunk because of you guys that buy them drinks. This type of girl is easy to spot: she’ll often be hanging around the bar, making eye contact with guys as a way to make them dance with her. Then she’ll make you buy her a drink, and before you know it, she’s decided she’s got to go. I should know: I’ve done it and seen it done before. If a girl tells you to buy her a drink, all you’re going to go home with is an empty wallet.

4. The girl with that showed up to the nightclub with one other friend.

If she comes with a one friend, she’ll stay with that one friend. Guys like to believe that girls will drop everything and just go home with them. Here’s a reality check: girls put their stuff in their friend’s bags, and girls stay at each other’s houses after the nightclub. When you see a girl with only one other friend, it’s likely that both those things will be true. A girl will not leave her one friend alone for you unless she is completely hammered, and if she is, refer back to number 1.

5. The girl that isn’t your type. At all.

We all know that alcohol gives us this weird vision where everyone is good looking when they’re really not. This is probably the most difficult girl to avoid because when you’re drinking, you want to get with everyone. The best way to avoid waking up the next morning with a bad case of the “Why, why, why did I do that last night?” is to ask your friends what they think of her, or to get her Facebook and call her the next day when you can see properly. Seriously, waiting one day is worth it to make sure you don’t do something or someone you regret.

Girls come and go every weekend, but those memories you keep of what you did (if you have any) stick with you for a while. Next time you go into bars and nightclubs, just keep one drunken eye open for these girls and it will make your night a lot easier…and keep your wallet a lot fatter.

Arabic Techno Music

So chances are, the DJ at your favorite bar or nightclub hasn’t spun this track… but nevertheless it is pretty good. Whilst many in the Western world would secumb to their ignorance and assume that listening to techno music (or even going to a bar or nightclub) in many Arabic nations is punishable by death… it isn’t… (well not everywhere at least)

According to the description of this track, it has Turkish and Greek influences… Whatever the case, the lyrics sound like they were written by a 12 year old gypsy but to be fair, all techno music lyrics sound shit so we definitely can’t hold that against them.

Whether you like it or not, chances are if you make a request to the DJ at your local nightclub they will laugh you off the dancefloor, however, it is worth a listen…

Sydney… More then Just Bars and Nightclubs

OK, Lets face it. Many of us spend way too much time in the bars and nightclubs and we neglect to appreciate the beauty of our amazing city. Sydney and other parts of Australia are bursting with natural goodness. From the beaches to the many mountains and cliffs, we have a wonderful world of outdoor beauty many of us just don’t notice. We’re not the only ones. Everyone does it in their own home town. Its like people who live opposite the beach. They move in and make the most of their good fortune, but after a while, the novelty runs dry and the beach simply becomes something in the distance.

While us Australian’s take our amazing country forgranted, one group of people are embracing it. A recent report shows that Australia is the number one destination Chinese people intend on visiting in the next few years. According to the Visa PATA Travel Intention Survey, more than half of the travellers surveyed from mainland China were intending to head to Australia in the next two years.

Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy said Chinese travellers loved Australia’s beaches, sunshine and natural scenery. “Australia has been at the forefront in destination marketing since becoming the first Western destination to receive approval to host group leisure travellers from China,” said McEvoy. “Since gaining approved destination status [ADS], in 1999, the China travel market has grown exponentially for Australia to become one of our top five sources of international travellers.”

McEvoy said efforts to strengthen marketing campaigns were being increased. “Tourism Australia is launching a new “There’s nothing like Australia”, campaign in China in August,” he said. “Early testing of our campaign shows positive results so far – of those who have viewed the new broadcast ad in Shanghai, 90 percent of people said they were more likely to head to Australia.”

The campaign will include an interactive map of Australia featuring 3,200 stories and images provided by Australian’s which will be translated into Chinese. During the year ending March 2010, Australia received 360,000 tourists from China generating $2.3 billion into our economy.

The Australian Government is investing $30 million into the new marketing strategy in China. Federal Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson said in 1999 93,000 Chinese people travelled to Australia and in 2009, this figure increased to more than 366,000. “The Government funding will help strengthen investment beyond the three core regions of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou into Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and generating the demand which will drive air capacity and further investment,” said Mr Ferguson. He said our country had beautiful icons and getting Australian citizens to tell their stories of our nation in an on-line marketing campaign helped bring tourists here. “Every day Australian’s have rallied to the cause and demonstrated their support for this campaign by adding almost 30,000 stories and images to help promote our well-known icons to the world as well as uncovering our hidden gems,” he said. “Businesses have indicated their support and willingness to continue with the campaign so I ask all others to do the same.”

So people, enjoy drinking and dancing up a storm on the dance floors in bars and clubs throughout Australia. Be sure you don’t forget to stop and take a walk on our beautiful beaches, smell our wonderful plants and snap amazing pictures of our cute animals. Remember that if we don’t, others will do it for us.

Dance Clubs Are The Worst

Well, maybe they are, maybe they aren’t in all depends on your taste in music.  Dance music (specifically electro) as we head into the “10′s” is likely to take over the mantle of most popular music genre previously held by RnB.  Bars and Nightclubs everywhere are getting on board, playing the latest electro and dance tracks from around the world.

On track these bars and nightclubs are probably not playing is the one below.  Absolutely hilarious have a look.

The Best Sex Games Ever

Getting out to bars and clubs during the colder months can be a bit of a struggle. Sure, there are house parties, card games, DVD nights and occasions to booze up on the couch, but what about if its just your partner and you? There is always some fun the two of you can have right?

I’m sure you’ve played the odd bar game while out on the town, but when its freezing and the thought of getting out of bed is absolutely crazy, there is something you and your partner can find to amuse yourselves. Why not take the fun games to the bedroom? OK, so many of us find games childish, awkward and stupid, but they actually bring very positive dimentions to a relationship / “friendship”. Whether its strip poker or naked twister, sex games can open up affective lines of communication between couples, uncover hidden problems within a relationship, they can be used as a way of getting to know each other and best of all, everyone is a winner! Research shows that bedroom games can intensify orgasms and the overall love making experience between two people.

Introducing games in the bedroom isn’t an easy thing (unlike bar and nightclub drinking games). There is always that strange feeling of the idea being totally rejected, one taking the concept more seriously than the other and one of you falling into fits of laughter. Key to bringing anything new into the bedroom is communication. Whether you’ve been together for two years or two weeks, you should just make mention of your thoughts and see how the other person reacts. Of course, if you’ve been together for a longer time, chatting about a new sexual experience for the two of you is easier, but my guess would be that if you don’t quite feel comfortable talking about a topic, there is usually a reason for it. Maybe the concept isn’t right for you yet. If you do think it is nerves though, you should even just bring up a situation that has happened between friends or that you’ve read in a magazine. Even if you didn’t read about sex games, maybe that’s a comfortable way of bringing the issue up with your partner. You could find how he / she feels about the topic from that and perhaps, if / when the time is right, ask if he / she would be willing to give it a try. When / if the time does arise that you want to try out some bedroom games, we’ve provided a couple for you to make a start. Best thing is, you already know many of them – they are traditional games with a very sexy twist.

1- Sexzee Yahtzee

All you need is one die and a vivid imagination. On a piece of paper, both partners write actions to correspond with the numbers. You can keep this one relatively tame (e.g. 1 = foot massage) or push the limits depending on your mood (e.g. 1 = blow job). When you roll, your partner has to deliver. Remember: This is your chance to try out all the “acts” you’ve been too shy to request, so don’t hold back.

Bonus: You can throw in two or more dice for multiple acts performed in a series or at the same time.

2- Truth or Dare?
If you’ve never played this sex game, you’re in for a surprise. Whether you pick truth or dare, you’re sure to uncover a few new (and titillating) things about your partner (and vice versa). All you need to play is a vivid imagination and a healthy sexual appetite. If you get stuck, don’t only ask about her sexual fantasies, bring them to life. As for dare, a striptease or lap dance is always a crowd pleaser. If you don’t want to ask or answer about past sexual escapades, set a rule from the get-go that former flings are off-limits. The last thing you want to do is make her jealous or self-conscious.

Bonus: Play this sex game over dinner or at a nightclub for added exhibitionist excitement.

3 - 7 Minutes in Heaven
Just because you’re no longer a teenager, it doesn’t mean the closet is off-limits. In the adult version of this game, wait for her in the dark (door closed) while she slips into something more comfortable (or nothing at all). The anticipation and confined space will up the hot factor and the lack of light will heighten your senses. Once she steps inside, kiss her hand, kiss her arm, kiss her collarbone, but hold off kissing her lips until she can’t take it any longer.

Bonus: Turn it into a game that the first person to speak loses.

4- Spin the Bottle
You probably remember Spin the Bottle from the wood-paneled basement days of your youth that was usually played by a bevy of bashful boys and girls. This variation of the classic pushes the boundaries well past kissing. Start by polishing off a bottle of wine at your favorite bar or cocktail bar; that always helps set the mood. In addition to the empty bottle, you need a marker and a large piece of paper. Start by drawing a circle about twice the size of the wine bottle, divide it into six equal sections and write a sexy request in each section, something both men and women can perform (e.g. French Kiss, Striptease, Partner’s Choice). Take turns spinning the bottle; whatever section you land on, you perform on your partner.

Bonus: Videotape your escapades for later viewing.

5- Sexy Twister
Remember Twister? Remember all those contortionist positions (right leg green, left hand yellow) that had your body entwined with your competitors. Now, picture playing it naked with your girlfriend. The Kama Sutra of board games, all you need for naked Twister is the Twister board and your birthday suit. Spin the wheel and place your limbs where the wheel indicates, making sure not to topple over. To add some excitement, distract your opponent by licking, nuzzling, kissing, and tickling. Last man (or woman) standing wins this sex game.
