What To Expect @ Albion Hotel And Gasworks Nightclub

Review By Kelly Wilkinson

The Albion Hotel in Parramatta is just a short walk down George Street from Parramatta train station. You will hear it before you see it, the music from the beer garden wafts over the walls and onto the streets. The Hotel does have its own parking near the Gasworks nightclub entrance, but there are also plenty of places to park on the streets.

Fifteen dollars on Friday and Saturday nights will gain you admission to the Gasworks Nightclub of the hotel. Photo identification is a must to enter the venue. It looks a bit ominous going in, but I assure you it is well worth the price of admission. You step through some sound proofed doors into a nightclub with quite a big dance floor. The lighting to this dance floor is nothing short of spectacular, it combines with a smoke machine for stunning effect, there is also strobe lighting which make the dancing look amazing. The nightclub has adequate seating around the walls and beams, also a few tall tables in the middle so you can keep your drink near you while you dance. The drinks are of average price with $8 vodka and red bulls between 10pm-11pm. There does not seem to be any free drink arrangement for designated drivers but plenty of water is provided.

A DJ is situated at the back of the stage playing nothing but the most modern of dance remixes, the stage itself is quite big and patrons are allowed to dance on it, they are even allowed to try their hand at pole dancing with one of the two poles that are on the stage. I’m assuming they have professional pole dancers during the day, although some of the people attempting to pole dance are very amusing to watch. Other than the odd lighting above the bar which I can only describe as indescribable, there isn’t much decor to the nightclub, it’s built for practicality, the bar and toilets are easily locateable on entry as is the exit to the beer garden.

The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, the dress style ranged from high end glamour down to jeans and sneakers. I saw some wonderful outfits there and also some very interesting ones. There were those dressed for clubbing, those that had come straight from work and even those that had come straight from the soccer game nearby. The age range of the patrons was quite varied as well going from early twenties to late thirties and possibly even early forties.

If the noise gets too loud for you, take a walk into the beer garden, their bistro stays open till late and there is a bar there too. This is the resident smoking area of the venue, but it’s very big so even if you are a non-smoker you will enjoy siting out there and listening to some quieter music while chatting with your friends over drinks.

The hotel section of the venue has free pool and jukebox all day Mondays. The poker machine area is accessible from both the hotel and the nightclub sections. Happy hours from 4pm-6pm, Thursdays are 6pm-10pm cocktail nights and the venue hosts occasional live gigs in the nightclub.

I loved this nightclub, it has everything you need for a great night out, and I will definitely be returning to it very soon.
