Bavarian Bier Cafe Bondi Review
Review by Nina SuboticIf you think all franchise bars are the same then think again.
My visit to the Bondi venue came after my first initial taste of the Bavarian Bier Franchise at its Parramatta counterpart, which to my surprise carried a distinctively different atmosphere.
The noticeably absent church setting, which distinguishes the Parramatta location from its beer pouring buddies, is substituted by the iconic Bondi Beach, located just across the road from the café. So what do you get when you take a church and replace it with a beach?
You get a place that’s perfect for casual get togethers’ with friends, after work drinks and even a place that dishes out a decent hearty meal by the beach. The Bavarian Bier Café Bondi manages to sustain the great tastes and quality that is common to all of the franchises café’s, but is different enough to offer a new experience from the franchises’ other bars.
How is it different? Well, for starters, the Café’s prime location makes a great venue for breakfast, which is exclusive to only a few of the franchises venues. Try one of the many filling breakfast bruschettas, ranging from about 15 to 20 dollars, like my favourite, the Asparagus Bruschetta with grilled pork Kassier, poached eggs and chived hollandaise. To get into the true Bavarian spirit you can’t go past the classic German breakfast known as Weisswurste, with poached Weisswurste Sausages, sweet mustard and once again a freshly baked Bavarian Pretzel, which you can never seem to escape - or want to escape for that matter.
And that’s just breakfast. Let’s not get into the elegant twist on the traditional, comfortable booths and long bench tables that stay true to the Bavarian Bier Café ideology. Let us not forget, however, the main focus of the Café is its bier, and like every other Café under the franchise the first thing you’ll see upon arrival is the striking stein chandelier and bar.
True to its reputation of housing a variety of award winning beers, the Munich Gold is the bier to try at the Bondi venue, and goes hand in hand with a hot summer’s day by the beach. The low carb bier with its subtle flavours of tropical fruit and distinctive absence of bitterness, makes for a laid back afternoon, and wonderful view both outside and inside the bar. The dark hues and tones of the bar area make for a perfect background to capture the twilight at its best on summer nights.
What can be said for the Bavarian Bier Café franchise is that wherever you are, wherever you may come across the familiar name, no two bars are the same. With it’s the two very different venues at Parramatta and Bondi, the Bavarian Bier Café is yet to disappoint. If bier, sun and surf sounds like your ultimate day or night, then you can’t pass up the opportunity to German it up!
