Gold Bar Review

Hidden down in an alleyway three stories up in the trendy Rokaby Rode in Subi lies Gold Bar. Open only on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm, this bar has a $15 entry fee and before 11 its $10. You’re not going to want to head to Gold Bar before 11 because its dead empty, best times to start queuing is after 10.30 when the bar starts to pickup.

Gold Bar is in an intimately small venue which makes you feel like you’re at an exclusive party where spots are limited. The decor that Gold Bar has going on is an exotic theme with the browns and gold drapes, then there are the retro egg shell chairs and a bubble wall on the small dance floor which sets of a 70’s disco vibe. Outside on the balcony there is a small Shisha bar and couches where you can sit and smoke your Shisha: there are a range of flavours with prices starting from $20.

Looking at the drink menu, the prices at Gold Bar are a bit pricey with the cocktails starting at $18 and Corona’s going for $9. I’m not sure if I was charged wrong but I paid $7 for a straight lemon lime bitters, which to this day is the most expensive lemon lime bitters I ever had.

This place is an upscale bar with a strict dress code, which means the guys have to wear a collar shirt and dress shoes. As for the ladies, this place is where you’re going to want to wear a cute dress and nice heels. The type of crowd that is at Gold Bar are fashionistas and socialites, the goers come from 20 years and plus age groups; not having too many youngies. From my Gold Bar experience, I think this is a good place to go when you want to get dressed up and not get messy from the large sweaty crowds. This is a good place to mingle and hang out with friends if you’re not looking for a wild night.
