The Blvd Tavern Review

Review by Carley McHugh

Soft lighting surrounds the courtyard like a never ending sunset; laughter vibrates throughout the courtyard like a tiny boombox and a constant aroma of pizza, steak and seafood crash through the doors. As you step inside, the coin flips with a dimly lit bar surrounded by people and the occasional flicker of disco lights. Hidden in the heart of Joondalup, the Boulevard Tavern is a crowd pleaser for the locals.

The perfect after-work-drink location can be hard to find - somewhere that has a relaxed atmosphere, but still has the potential to turn a casual drink into a big night out. The Boulevard Tavern has a simple courtyard with plenty of tables and chairs that are ideal for workers who have justknocked off. The Boulevard is on the corner of Grand Boulevard and Boas Avenue; however the constant noise of cars driving past is not as distracting as it may sound. There is background music playing from the speakers, although it is not live, it is still a great atmosphere.

Inside, there is more of a club vibe. There are two bars and a bistro area. The bistro area is closed off to those wanting a quiet meal. The bar area is fairly dark with a few lounges and a pool table. Although it isnot a huge bar area, it is great for a catch up with a few friends.

There are plenty of specials on to draw in a crowd. There is a weekly happy hour from 5-7pm with $6 Carlton Dry & Pure Blonde, $5 Carlton Draught, Victoria Bitter, Rothbury Wines, Smirnoff Vodka & Jim Beam. On Wednesdays there are $3 house beers & pizzas from 7pm and on Sundays there are $3 house beers.

However, if you can’t make it to happy hour, beer and wine range from $6 to $10, where as a cocktail is more expensive, sitting at about $16. The cocktails are good but be prepared to wait a while for them to be made.

The Boulevard Tavern also offers deals for functions. You are able to secure an area such as the courtyard, the bar area or bistro area. What’s even better is that there is no room hire fee. Whether it is a group of 20or 200, The Boulevard Tavern can accommodate.

Although this place does not always attract a huge crowd, it does providethe locals with an after work watering hole with beer, food and musicwhich is all that is really needed. For those looking for a big night out,The Boulevard Tavern has events nearly every weekend with DJ’s and drinksspecials, so just because it’s not in the city, doesn’t mean it’s notworth it.
