Stephen Merchant, British comedic actor and co-creator of The Office, has recently created and starred on another hit TV show called Hello Ladies, where his character Stuart lives in Los Angeles hoping to meet the woman of his dreams, provided she’s a gorgeous supermodel who by proxy makes him the cool dude he only wishes he could be. I didn’t get into this show straight away, but after a few episodes, I got sucked in.
With so many different dance moves trending, it’s hard to know what moves you should keep in your pocket for that special night of flowing alcohol, allowable groping and anticipated beat drops. Twerking, Jerking, Shuffling, Yiking, to Dougie or to Gabber? Sometimes the classics are your best bet. They’re simple, take little effort and are do-able in heels. Not everyone can shake it like a rednose.
Statistics show that majority of women are attracted to men who dress with a sense of formality, when compared to men who choose the easy way out and dress in casual attire. Girls definitely notice slovenly dressing, and it’s a major turnoff.
Society nowadays deems smokers as idiots and smoking as a horrible habit, so even at nightclubs smokers are like social pariahs. Sunday July 1st 2007 was the day smoking was banned in bars and nightclubs Australia wide, and what a horrific day it was for smokers, while simultaneously being a joyous day for non-smokers.
When foreign travellers visiting our shores ruminate the national characteristics of Australia, drinking and partying is often featured towards the top of the list. This observation seems accurate as many of us enjoy the chaotic auditorium that is the nightlife scene and the boozing that goes along with it.
The toilet. Everyone has to go sometime, and many people have certain phobias and practices regarding going to the toilet. I’m not talking about the obvious like wiping your bum after giving birth to Mr Hankey, but I’ve heard so many people say how they don’t use public toilets or toilets at work and hold on until they get home (how do they hold it all in for that long?!). Imagine how these people feel about nightclub toilets!
One article of ours that got heaps of attention earlier this year discussed whether nightclub photographers should consider the implications of taking raunchy photos of scantily clad girls making out and doing other provocative things (i.e. showing off their hot bods). Though that article was more so about how all this affected photographers, I’d like to take a stab at this issue from another angle; why are these bloody girls pashing each other to begin with?
Nightclubs are an interesting place of reckless abandon to inhibitions and social norms, where we can all kickback and let our drunken selves party hard. However, for the many peeps out there who work in nightclubs, it can be a draining and crazy job. Adelaide filmmaker Shannon Gunn explored the ups and downs of working in bars and nightclubs with her documentary The Late Shift.
I recently got back from a month long holiday to America, and what a country it is! Had an absolute blast there, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for good nights out. For those who haven’t been to America before, I had you in mind and took many notes so I could tell y’all what it’s really like from a Nightlife Correspondent’s point of view.
