Guys: I’ll let you in on a little secret. When it comes to picking up in clubs, girls often try just as hard as guys do. You’re probably reading this and thinking, yeah right. But it’s true. Take it from a girl - often we’re just as keen to strike up a conversation with the opposite sex as you are.
There are a few fundamental differences between the methods guys and girls use when it comes to picking up in clubs. Girls tend to be a lot more subtle than guys when it comes to the art of attracting the opposite gender. If a guy approaches a girl he’s confident, but when a girl approaches a guy she’s worried about looking too enthusiastic, and just plain desperate. Girls like to feel special enough that a guy wants to come and talk to them first. But there are some tell-tale signs that guys can look out for to figure out whether she wants you before you make the first move.
First of all, watch out for eye contact. Unless you have a giant booger hanging out of your nose, why else would she be staring and giggling in your direction? Perhaps check for boogers and other awkward things (like having your fly undone, toilet paper stuck on your shoe, etc.) before you approach her, you know, just in case.
You may also notice that the entire night she is everywhere you seem to be. While some may call this stalking, it’s often a girls way of saying to a guy, “Hey, come talk to me because I’m too shy to start a conversation.” (Note: if she continues to stalk you outside of the club, then by all means, RUNNN).
If you’ve taken the plunge and are now talking to her, watch for the classic sign that spells out flirtation: the hair twirl. The hair twirl can be defined as the girl taking a lock of her hair and twisting it around her finger while she looks extremely interested in what you’re saying. She may even do the hair flip. This is where she tosses her hair back behind her shoulders as she laughs at your joke that really wasn’t that funny.
Often girls do tend to play the hard to get game. But guys, don’t be discouraged. We often want to talk to you as much as you want to talk to us. In fact, I admire the way guys come up and start a conversation and make it clear they are interested. As long as you’re not too pushy and aren’t completely misreading the signs that we are in fact interested, you should be in with a shot of getting our number.
