As if celebrities don’t have enough money already, they have to find ways to keep making even more cash. They seem to have taken note from the movies and music videos they’ve been in from the blatant product placement in them (Man Of Steel‘s climatic showdown, anyone?), and figured they can use themselves to promote their own products. And what product will make them look cooler than any other? Booze, of course!
It seems quite a few celebrities have sold out taken advantage of their fame, taking credit for some unrecognised brewer’s work. So here are the ten (well, eleven really) most popular celebrities doing this.
1. Shane Warne
Warnie’s beer is called 99 Not Out SKW (Shane Keith Warne) Pale Ale (what a mouthful!), a reference to how during a test match between Australia and New Zealand back in 2001 when a missed and unpenalised overstepping ‘no ball’ from bowler Daniel Vettori saw Warne get caught out for 99. It was developed by New Zealand craft beer brewing company Moa Why the hell you’d name your beer after a failure of yours is an idiotic mystery, but that’s Warnie for you.
2. Dan Aykroyd
Aykroyd recently went around Australia to promote his brand of vodka, Crystal Head. Contained in, as the name suggests, a bottle shaped like a crystal skull, it’s certainly a bottle that stands out. After a few of these, you’ll be thinking you’ll Aykroyd to come over in his Ghostbusters gear to get rid of the ghouls you’re imagining.
3. George Clooney
Clooney founded a brand of Mexican tequila called Casamigos, letting peeps get their inner gringo on. I suppose even the ex-Batman needs a drink after a hard day’s work of being one of the most desired men on the planet (lucky bastard).
4. Drew Barrymore
Ms Barrymore created Barrymore Pinot Grigio wine in early 2012. She seems like the type who you would enjoy whimsical things like hanging around a vineyard in France and drinking in such a place, and not just because she’s a movie star.
5. Justin Timberlake
As if music and movies weren’t enough, as well as a restaurant, clothing line and a golf course, the former ‘N Sync member also has his own tequila brand called 901. Being a true party guy, Timberlake has said the reason it’s called 901 is because 9:01(pm) is when the evening ends and night begins. Quite an appropriate party drink then!
6. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
This Hollywood power couple not only created children who will be super hot when they’re older, but also Miraval Rose, a vintage pink wine made in France. Apparently they were quite demanding in the quality and character of their wine; fair enough, they do have a reputation to uphold (though they’re still home wreckers to Jennifer Aniston).
7. Marilyn Manson
Though the whole point of goths are to be anti-establishment and anti-commercialism, it seems like even someone as outlandish as Marilyn Manson wants in on the alcohol business. He’s created an absinthe called Mansinthe (get it?). Without any additional flavours or ingredients, it’s not far off being pure alcohol. An absinthe by Manson of all people is sure to completely make you freak out (hopefully in a good way).
8. Fergie
The Black Eyed Peas singer and her horticulturist father released a wine called Ferguson Crest grown on their own vineyard in California. I’d like to think after drinking enough of this, Fergie would get all flirtatious and talk about her humps, her lovely lady lumps.
9. Sean “Diddy” Combs
No longer the rap star he used to be, Diddy fortunately had his successful Ciroc vodka to fall back on. He get 50% of the profits, in the double-digit millions apparently. Good for him. It’d be hard for him trying to write a rap to have something rhyme with Ciroc.
10. Donald Trump
As if this guy really needs more money, he must have done this out of pure ego. He even called it “the most luxurious vodka ever created”. Called Trump Vodka, this ended up being one of his business failures, as it just didn’t sell well enough. Oh well, it’s still not as horrendous as his wig, especially considering how much money he has to get a decent one.
