Ahhh Christmas. A time when families come together and try to resolve fights and differences for a holiday that has been commercialised. Whether it’s Christmas lunch at your nan’s or crazy aunty’s, or a fabulous dining experience on the harbour, let’s face it; you’re going to want to drink just to get through it.
Unlike Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere, Australian Christmas is hot, muggy and filled with prawns and other barbequed delights. So straight away you’re probably not going to want to drink milky eggnog or mulled wine.
So here is a list of the cocktails that are going to make you refreshed, cool and drunk to get through your Christmas day and night:
1. Tequila Sunrise
Refreshing juices and lots of tequila, this favourite will help you loosen up this Christmas. It’s not that much effort to make and you can add as much tequila as possible.
2. Sangria
Any type of sangria; zen, mango, peach, white wine. It doesn’t matter. Twist it up with your personal combination of flavours and enjoy by the pool.
3. Punch
Any type of punch. It doesn’t even matter how many types of alcohol you put in it. Chuck in a mixture of bottles, some lemonade, pineapple juice and fruit and bingo! You got a bowl of alcohol that will hopefully last all day. Bonus points when it tastes just as bad coming back up.
4. Mojito
Perfectly refreshing for a hot summer’s day. Chuck some candy canes in there for proper holiday fun and to really get into the drunken Christmas spirit.
5. Shandy
Yes, the simple old shandy is a summer favourite. For those of us not fussed with girly, pretty cocktails, the shandy in its simplest form is just beer and lemonade. For those willing to put more effort in, it can be done with a mixture of lemon juices, ginger beer and actual beer.
