The Big Bang Theory has to be just about the most popular sitcom on TV at the moment, if not the most popular TV show in general, with 20 million viewers who tuned in to see the current season’s opening episode. Who’d thought that the simple premise of a hot blonde having to deal with four nerds’ social awkwardness could churn out season after season and get people laughing hysterically? Now that I think about it, it’s not really much of a plot, is it? Ah, whatevs, it’s still a pissa.
You know what will make people laugh really hard? Alcohol. Like The Office drinking game, so many of the characters’ quirks and catchphrases make us laugh time and time again, and will make you go completely silly once you’re already blotto. There seems to be all sorts of variations of TBBT drinking games online, and how many shots to have whenever something specific happens on the show, so I’ll list the most commonly listed rules. (There’s tons more rules you can follow, but even just following these rules will make you feel like a big bang went off in your head thanks to your hangover the next morning).
1. Sheldon Says Something Really Inappropriate (1 shot)
Whether it be about Penny’s sex life or something that’s unintentionally insensitive or even racist, Sheldon has a big case of foot in mouth disease, responsible for at least a quarter of the show’s laughs. Your liver would be fucked if you had to do more than one shot every time Sheldon drops some bombshell.
2. Sheldon Chants “Penny! Penny! Penny!” While Knocking On Her Door (1 shot)
The amount of times Sheldon tends to do this, you’ll really hope no one repeatedly knocks on your door the next morning, with the knocking sounding far sounder than it really is thanks to your hangover.
3. The Roommate Agreement Is Mentioned (2 shots)
Sheldon’s pedantic (i.e. stupid) set of rules regarding what is allowed and isn’t allowed in the apartment comes up a fair bit, but not every episode, so 2 shots are needed. Whether it’s about what time of day they watch TV or what time Sheldon needs to use the loo, it’s friggin’ ridiculous.
4. Wolowitz Uses A Pick-Up Line (1 shot)
Howard Wolowitz has to just about be the sleaziest nerd to ever grace television. Unlike his mates talking science, he’s talking poontang. Before eventually marrying Bernadette, he constantly hits on Penny, in the least subtle way possible. E.g. she’s making the boys shots while, and Wolowitz asks if he can have a Slippery Nipple while looking at her cleavage. The look on his face whenever he’s sleazy is priceless.
5. Amy Hits On Penny (1 shot)
Once Wolowitz hooked up with Bernadette, someone had to pick up the slack of being creepy towards Penny. Not only is Amy another girl, but she thinks Penny is her bestie and seems to think they can take the next step. From suggestive comments to feeling Penny up, Amy is as socially awkward as they get (hence why she’s dating Sheldon). Poor Leonard, he’s got so much competition.
6. “Bazinga!” (2 shots)
Sheldon’s catchphrase doesn’t start getting used until the end of Season 2, but once it does, prepare for Bazin-galore. For your own good, try to avoid the episode where Sheldon repeats this line in the ball pit.
7. Raj Whispers Around Girls (1 shot)
Being such a smart arse, karma is clearly in the works when Raj can’t simply talk to women. Embodying every shy guy worldwide, it’s funny to know that in real life this guy’s dating Miss India.
8. Someone Bags Wolowitz For Not Having A Doctorate (1 shot)
Wolowitz being the only member of the group who doesn’t have a phD makes him the loser of the group, of socially awkward nerds. If you’re being picked on by these type of people, that must make Wolowitz feel so low. For a bunch of nerds who lament about being picked on in school, their comments about Wolowitz are borderline bullying.
9. Wolowitz’s Mum Yells (2 shots)
With a voice to shatter ear drums, she’s every man’s worst nightmare of what kind of overbearing mother you could have. As you never see her, it’s hard to sympathise with her or think of her as anything other than an annoying hag, but it’s still funny.
10. “Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty…” (3 shots)
The lullaby Penny sings to man-child Sheldon is not only funny, but will put you to sleep as well. By put you to sleep, I mean knock you out. Just be glad it only happens so often, because you’d need to go to a hospital (for real).
