Caitlan recently gave some great tips on how to plan a girls’ night out, and so it seemed fitting to follow-up with what to wear and not to wear on a night out. When going clubbing, you want to have a great night, listen to some music, spend plenty of time on the dance floor with your girls, and just generally feel good. If you’re feeling in the mood to club, then you also want to look good, right? Right.
To look your best, you want to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, but also show off your great fashion sense by wearing some of the latest trends.
To help out with what to wear and what to leave for another night or person, I’ve been looking into some of the celeb’s fashion faux pas and discovered the following warnings.
Beware the peek-a-boo see-through outfits
These outfits can look absolutely gorgeous, and are guaranteed to turn some heads. This sounds great, but the outfit can turn heads for the wrong reason. Singer Kelly Rowland found this out the hard way during the 55th annual Grammy Awards. When trying on these outfits, pay attention to what they reveal and how the cut suits you. If you’re happy in the outfit, then you’ll be able to rock it in any club.
One stunning look is better than two
This tip was again learned from the Grammy Awards, when Florence Welch turned up in a beautiful evergreen sequined dress, which really complemented her. The problem was that this dress also had studded detailing. You can rock the spiky look, and you can rock the sequined look, but together they cancel each other out. Choose one great look then use accessories to complement it.
Too bold and too in your face can backfire
Coco Austin attended a VH1 event in NYC wearing a revealing (OK, it’s Coco, so that’s standard) and very colourful dress. Don’t get me wrong, I love colour, but the outfit had a lot going on, and it simply didn’t quite work. Know what bold colours work for you and use them, but don’t go overboard with them, is what I think can be taken on board by this fashion faux pas.
Now we know what to avoid, let’s have a look at what’s hot right now.
Hot trends of 2013
Neon
Have I mentioned that I love colour? I love neon outfits, and I think they’re perfect for clubbing, as even in the dimmest light, you can still stand out and look fab.
Asian Influence
Combining western cuts with Asian imagery and inspiration is really big this year, and this look is very versatile in its functions. Try it with a cute pencil skirt and go out for an elegant meal, and you can also combine it with a shine miniskirt and some neon high heels and hit the clubs.
Black and White
Black and white outfits are huge this year too, and Beyoncé showed just how it’s done at the Grammy Awards. If you love a vintage look, then black and white is perfect for you, as you can find so many sixties inspired outfits in black and white. Very mod. Top tip – wear your black and white pieces with a pop of colour whether it’s a bright pink lipstick or some red sunglasses!
If in doubt, LBD!
If you’re staring in your wardrobe and just can’t decide which outfit to wear, then you can always rely on the Little Black Dress. It’s a classic of clubland, and will always have a place in our hearts.
If, like me, you love keeping track of the latest fashion trends and seeing how you can use these looks for a night out, then check out new fashion gurus boohoo’s style guide and dresses.
I hope you find these tips useful. Have a great night!
