There are oodles of gigs, concerts, music events and performances happening at the moment. Every newspaper, website, TV and Radio station seems to be plugging a live music event or a comeback tour. But there are a few gigs which cannot, should not be missed. Get your pens and pencils (or your PDA’s!) ready ladies and gentleman, because here is a list of gigs happening this July which need to be written down in your calendars:
1. Say Anything Australian Headline Tour – This indie-punk band from Cali-for-niay, was last down under in 2009 when they played an impressive performance at the Soundwave Festival. Starting off their tour in Perth on the 11th July, Adelaide on the 12th, Melbourne on Friday 13th (if you’re game enough to leave the house!), Sydney on Saturday the 14th, finalising their tour on Tuesday the 17th July at the Hi-Fi in Brisbane. Eccentricity, quirky, crazy, off-the-wall, all these words have been used to describe this band and their shows; are you sure you want to miss it?
2. Jack White’s hits the Hordern Pavilion – one half of the greatness that made up the White Stripes is making his way to Australia to perform this July; of course we’re talking about Jack White. The multi-talented performer; vocalist, guitarist and pianist, who now performs solo, will be hitting our shores to play his first gig at the Hordern Pavilion on Thursday 26th July from 8pm. The Michigan-born artist will be belting out his greatest folk/blues/indie rock hits. Don’t worry though, if you can’t make it to this gig, you’ll get the chance to see him when he plays at Splendour in the Grass.
3. Yung Warriors - we know, this gig is still a few weeks away, but that’s exactly why we’re telling you to put it in your diary – cause it’s gonna be so epic that it should not be missed! Our very own Indigenous hip hop crew, the Yung Warriors, kicked off their massive ‘Standing Strong’ Aussie tour in May and will be performing their last 3 gigs this July. Thursday the 12th July, they’ll be playing at the Front Cafe and Gallery in the ACT, Friday 13th July they’ll be, proudly no doubt, blasting their hip-hop, rap and r&b tunes at the Laundry in their hometown of Melbourne, and finally finishing off their tour at The Patch at The Cabbage Tree Hotel in Wollongong.
