I’m on a bit of a crazy tangent at the moment and decided: what better way to indulge this tangent than with a list of the wackiest and weirdest alcoholic drinks from around the world? If you think brewing your own beer, inventing your own cocktails or making home-made spirits is innovative, read on….
1. Skorppio Vodka - we all expect to see a worm at the bottom of a bottle of top-class tequila, but a scorpion at the bottom of a bottle of vodka!?! Yes, this five-times distilled vodka contains an edible scorpion, de-venomned for your enjoyment.
2. Baby Mouse Wine - yep you heard right, BABY…MOUSE…Wine. This was by far the most gag-worthy alcoholic drink I came across while doing my research. What’s even worse is that they are put inside the bottle alive and then drowned. This Chinese drink claims to cure many medical problems including asthma and liver problems. Seriously guys, can’t you just take an aspirin or use a puffer?
3. Bakon Vodka - if you love the smell of wafting bacon, then this may be your ultimate alcoholic drink. With an accurate name, this bacon-flavoured vodka is made in Seattle, by Black Rocks Spirits. Can’t imagine what you would mix this meaty spirit with?
4. Kumis - although this Asian drink made from mare’s milk is relatively low in alcohol, I had to include because of its peculiarity! This alcoholic drink is very old and there are accounts of it as far back as 5th century BC (think of it as an olden day Kahlua and milk - without the Kahlua). With the rarity of mare’s milk, these days it is often made from cow’s milk.
5. Pizza Beer - everyone enjoys a good pizza and a beer together (in fact it makes up the staple diet for most poker nights, football games and other sporting events where men throw balls around at each other!). Pizza and a beer, beer and a pizza, but pizza beer? Made from real pizza crust, basil, garlic and tomato, Pizza Beer was the brain child of The Seefurth’s, who experimented to create a beer which would be a good accompaniment to a variety of foods.
I can regretfully (or gladly!) say I have never tried any of these drinks. Have you?
